JOST keeps Hamm moving

JOST is a company that has been a global leader in the production of systems, modules and components since its foundation in 1952. JOST World is characterised by globally present, high quality, reliable and market-oriented products and has five product brands: JOST; ROCKINGER, TRIDEC, Edbro and Quicke.

JOST expanded its portfolio in 2015 with Axle Systems, formerly Mercedes-Benz TrailerAxleSystems. JOST offers weight-saving trailer and truck axles for a wide range of uses. Innovative products from the DCA Axle Series and the use of disc brakes revolutionised the trailer market in a long-lasting way.

The compact axle beam gives the axle series the name DCA – Durable Compact Axle. Integrating all the axle functions creates a compact axle housing that is extremely durable and lightweight thanks to its innovative design. The axle housing integrates the trailing arm, axle tube, brake flange and axle journal, forming a perfect unit.

The Durable Leaf Suspension (DLS) trailer axle offers the optimal solution for trailers with 10.5 t axle loading and a variety of ride height operating ranges. The proven steel leaf spring is the basis of the DLS combined with standard, air bellows, shock absorbers, axle beams, standard disc brakes and durable wheel ends.

JOST truck axles, pusher and tag axles are rigid as well as steerable and optional liftable to support the load. JOST provides solutions to carry high loads for vehicles with more than two axles to transport higher loads.

International freight forwarding company, Heinrich Hamm Speditionsgesellschaft mbH & Co KG, specialises in the silo transportation of loose pulverised and granulated products. Alfred Distelkamp, head of the company’s entire workshop and fleet operation, said his silo transporters serve two clearly defined areas – food and food additives as well as high quality chemical products and minerals.

“We have one location in Neuwied / Rhein, Germany,” he said. “Here we run a modern service centre. This includes the silo interior cleaning system and our own workshop with brake test bench for professional care, maintenance and repair of our 150 tractor units and 252 large-capacity silo semitrailers.”
Hamm’s partnership with JOST, according to Distelkamp, started with the first Mercedes axles which his business purchased in 2014.

“From mid-2014 to mid-2018, we put 80 Benalu silo trailers into service – all are equipped with Mercedes, or rather, JOST axles,” he said. “We use JOST axles due to the consistent good quality. We are also satisfied with the aftersales support. Due to the consistent good experience of the past few years, we have also equipped our latest silo trailers, make LAG, with JOST axles.”
